Sônia Hernandes is bishop and co-founder of Igreja Apostólica Renascer em Cristo (Reborn in Christ Church) in São Paulo, Brazil. She and her husband, Apostle Estevam Hernandes, founded the church in 1986, after she left a career as a nutritionist to build the ministry alongside him.
She was later ordained as Brazil's first female bishop, becoming one of the first women in the country to preach from the pulpit, on television, and on radio. She hosts the television program "De Bem com a Vida" and the podcast "Bispa Sonia Talks." In 2022 she published the bestseller "Reencontro com a Vida," becoming the first Christian woman to top Brazil's bestseller list.
