About Augustus Nicodemus Lopes
Augustus Nicodemus Lopes is pastor of Esperanca Bible Presbyterian Church in the United States and a longtime leader within the Presbyterian Church of Brazil.
Lopes first trained in industrial design and electrical engineering at the Federal University of Pernambuco before pursuing theology at the Northern Presbyterian Seminary, a master's in New Testament at the Reformed University of South Africa, and a doctorate in biblical interpretation at Westminster Theological Seminary, where he also completed postdoctoral study. Over a ministry spanning more than three decades he has pastored churches in Recife, Sao Paulo, Santo Amaro, and Goiania, served as vice-president of the Supreme Council of the Presbyterian Church of Brazil from 2018 to 2022, and was chancellor of Mackenzie Presbyterian University from 2003 to 2013. He has authored more than two dozen books and Bible commentaries.
