For most churches of 200 or more, Clearstream is the best church texting service in 2026. It publishes its price, gives you a 30-day free trial with no contract, and includes its Planning Center integration on every plan. If automated guest follow-up is the job, look hard at Text In Church, and if your church already runs on Planning Center and mostly sends reminders, its $5-a-month texting add-on may be all you need.

How I Chose
I ranked each service on four things a church of 200+ runs into every week: what it costs at the volume you’ll send, how well it connects to your church management software (Planning Center above all), whether it automates guest follow-up, and whether you can try it before you pay. I counted only what each company publishes. Where a price sits behind a sales call, the table says “Quote only.”
Prices verified on each company’s own site on September 25, 2026. Flocknote’s details come from its own help center.
REACHRIGHT doesn’t sell texting software. REACHRIGHT is a Tithe.ly partner and may earn a referral fee when a church signs up through our Tithe.ly links. I’m the executive pastor of a church of about 300 in Hawaii Kai, so I wrote this for the church office that has to live with the tool long after the sales demo ends.
Church Texting Services Compared
Five of the seven services publish a paid starting price, from $5 a month to $39 a month billed annually. The other two make you ask or calculate.
| Service | Church-specific? | Lowest published price | What that includes | Free trial/plan | Planning Center |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Clearstream | Yes | $35/mo (US) | 1,000 credits/mo, 10,000 emails/mo, 1 local number, tap-tag management | 30-day free trial, no contract | Native integration, free on any plan |
| Text In Church | Yes | Quote only | Core: 1.25K credits/mo, unlimited email, two-way texting, Connect Cards, automated workflows, all integrations. Extra messages $0.03 each | Free trial, no credit card | Integration included |
| Planning Center | Yes (it's a ChMS) | $5/mo texting add-on (People is free) | Texts from your own toll-free number, no setup fees | People is free for every church | Built in |
| Tithe.ly Messaging | Yes | $19/mo | 250 texts/mo, unlimited email. Extra texts $10 per 500 credits | 30-day free trial | Not confirmed |
| Flocknote | Churches and organizations | Free under 40 members; paid tiers priced by member count | Unlimited emails and standard texts at every size | Free forever under 40 members | Not confirmed |
| EZ Texting | No (general-purpose) | $20/mo billed annually ($25 billed monthly) | 500 credits/mo, 1 local 10DLC number, 1 user, unlimited contact uploads. Plus a $5/mo telecom fee | 14-day free trial, no credit card | Not built in (connects to Zapier, HubSpot, Mailchimp) |
| Trumpia | No (general-purpose) | $39/mo billed annually ($49 month to month) | 1,000 SMS/mo, 18,000 emails/mo, unlimited SMS contacts, two-way inbox | None listed | Not confirmed |
“Not confirmed” means the company’s own pages I checked didn’t mention a Planning Center integration. Ask before you assume one.
Compare credits before you compare sticker prices. On EZ Texting, one SMS uses 1 credit and one MMS (a text with a picture or video) uses 3. Flocknote treats texts over 160 characters or with images as SuperTexting, which draws on optional credits. Tithe.ly doesn’t count the replies you receive against your quota. If 300 people are on your list, one all-church text uses 300 credits on any plan that charges a credit per text, so a 500-credit plan covers one all-church text a month with a little left for ministry teams.
The 7 Best Church Texting Services, Ranked
1. Clearstream (Best Overall)
Clearstream is built for churches, and it’s the one I’d hand most churches of 200+ that want a dedicated texting tool. Its $35-a-month US plan includes 1,000 credits, 10,000 emails, one local phone number, and tap-tag management, with a 30-day free trial and no contract. The Planning Center integration is free on any plan, and Clearstream says it auto-creates profiles, adds people to Workflows, and sends by campus. It also connects to Rock RMS, CCB/Pushpay, and Breeze, and it sells subaccounts so each campus or ministry can run its own texting. The pricing page lists A2P 10DLC numbers as a feature but shows no fee amount, so ask before you sign.
2. Text In Church (Best for Guest Follow-Up)
Text In Church is for churches whose biggest gap is guest follow-up, and it’s built around Connect Cards and keyword-based automated workflows. The Core plan includes 1.25K credits a month, unlimited email, two-way texting, and access to every integration, including Planning Center, Rock RMS, and Church Community Builder. Priority 10DLC registration comes with every tier, and messages past your allotment cost $0.03 each. Text In Church doesn’t publish its price, so start a free trial (no credit card required) or ask for a quote to see it. If you came looking for PastorsLine, pastorsline.com redirects straight to textinchurch.com as of September 25, 2026.
3. Planning Center (Best Budget)
If your church already runs on Planning Center, start here before you buy anything else. People is free for every church with unlimited people, and text messaging is a $5-a-month add-on with no setup fees, sent from your own toll-free number. Your contacts already live in People, so there’s nothing to sync, and People already includes follow-up workflows and real-time reporting. Planning Center’s People page doesn’t spell out whether the texting add-on handles keywords, two-way conversations, or drip sequences, so test those before you build a plan around them. If you’re still choosing a ChMS, my Planning Center review covers the rest of the platform.
4. Tithe.ly Messaging (Best If You Already Use Tithe.ly)
Tithe.ly Messaging fits churches already on Tithe.ly’s church management suite, since contacts import straight from Tithe.ly’s ChMS. It starts at $19 a month with 250 texts and unlimited email, extra texts cost $10 per 500 credits, and the All-Access bundle with every Tithe.ly product is $119 a month. You get keyword triggers with auto-responses, automated follow-up sequences, messages by role or group, and two-way texting where replies don’t count against your quota. For a church of 200+, 250 texts won’t cover one all-church text once your list passes 250 people, so budget for credit packs from the start. Tithe.ly offers a 30-day free trial.
5. Flocknote (Best for Unlimited Standard Texts)
Flocknote fits a church that texts often and wants a predictable bill, because it prices by the number of members in your network instead of by the message. Its help center says all emails and standard texts are unlimited regardless of member count, and a network under 40 members is free forever. Texts over 160 characters or with images use optional SuperTexting credits, and Flocknote Complete, a household database add-on, runs a flat $75 a month for any size church. The help center gives no dollar figure for the Starter tiers, so run Flocknote’s pricing tool with your member count to get your number.
6. EZ Texting (Best General-Purpose Option)
EZ Texting is a general-purpose texting platform with a Churches solution page, and it has the lower starting price of the two general-purpose tools here. The Launch plan is $20 a month billed annually ($25 billed monthly), plus a $5-a-month telecom fee, for 500 credits, one local 10DLC number, one user, and unlimited contact uploads, with overage at $0.04 a credit. You get keywords, auto-replies, drip campaigns, group segmentation, and two-way texting, plus Zapier, HubSpot, and Mailchimp integrations, and the 14-day free trial doesn’t ask for a card. Launch allows one user and has no church-specific automation or ChMS integration built in, so it fits an office sending announcements better than a team running follow-up.
7. Trumpia
Trumpia is a general-purpose SMS platform with a dedicated church landing page. It fits a church that sends about 1,000 texts a month and wants a flat bill, since Trumpia says it absorbs standard carrier surcharges instead of passing them to you. The Lite 1,000 plan is $39 a month billed annually ($49 month to month) for 1,000 SMS messages, 18,000 emails, unlimited SMS contacts, and a consolidated two-way inbox. Its 10DLC numbers cost an additional fee and take about 10 business days to approve. The pricing page shows no free trial, and Lite comes with online support only.
EZ Texting vs. Text In Church
EZ Texting is the general-purpose choice with a price you can see today. Text In Church doesn’t publish its price, but it’s built for church guest care and integrates with Planning Center, Rock RMS, Church Community Builder, Mailchimp, Zapier, Tithe.ly Church Management, and Elvanto.
| EZ Texting | Text In Church | |
|---|---|---|
| Built for | General use, with a Churches solution page | Churches |
| Starting price | $20/mo billed annually or $25 monthly, plus a $5/mo telecom fee on Launch | Quote only |
| Monthly volume | 500 credits (an MMS uses 3) | 1.25K credits on Core |
| Overage | $0.04 per credit | $0.03 per message |
| Free trial | 14 days, no credit card | Yes, no credit card |
| 10DLC registration | Included in every plan | Priority registration at every tier |
| Follow-up tools | Keywords, auto-replies, drip campaigns | Connect Cards, automated workflows, keyword automation |
| Integrations | Zapier, HubSpot, Mailchimp | Planning Center, Rock RMS, Church Community Builder, Mailchimp, Zapier, Tithe.ly Church Management, Elvanto |
Pick EZ Texting for affordable mass texting with drip campaigns and auto-replies you build yourself. Pick Text In Church for automation built for churches: Connect Cards, keyword-triggered follow-up, and ChMS integrations like Planning Center and Rock RMS. Get its quote in writing during the trial, then hold it up against EZ Texting’s $20 plan plus the $5 telecom fee. For a church of 200+, the deciding question is which automation your team needs: general-purpose drip texting, or a workflow built for guest care and your ChMS.
What Churches Use Texting For
Churches use mass text messaging for the messages people can’t afford to miss and for the follow-up nobody on staff has time to do by hand.
Guest follow-up comes first. A first-time guest texts a keyword, gets plan-your-visit details back, and lands in an automated follow-up sequence. If you need the words, our visitor follow-up templates include word-for-word texts, and this church contact follow-up process shows how the pieces fit together.
Keywords handle a lot of the routine work once they’re set up:
- GIVE or GIVENOW sends back a giving link.
- VOLUNTEER starts follow-up from a volunteer team leader.
- GROUPS sends the small group directory.
- NEWHERE sends plan-your-visit information to a first-time guest.
Reminders and changes are the everyday use. Text event reminders the day before and cancellation notices when plans change. Keep volunteers current on what to bring and where to be. Schedule messages ahead of time so the same family doesn’t get three texts from three ministries on one Saturday. When the whole church needs to know something now, like a severe weather closure, a text reaches people even if they’re already on the road.
Texting also carries care. Use it for prayer requests and prayer chains, and to send a short note to someone you’re praying for. Some churches send daily devotionals segmented by group (men, women, parents, seniors), and some use texting during the service for live polls or for prayer requests shown on screen. You can also collect connect card details, event registrations, survey answers, and contact updates by text, and many online giving platforms offer text-to-give.
Texting doesn’t replace email. Longer updates still belong in your church email. Before any all-church text goes out, ask one thing: would a member be annoyed to miss this? If not, put it in the email.
Texting Rules Churches Need to Know
Register your number through your texting platform if you text from a local number, and never text anyone who hasn’t opted in or who has texted STOP. I’m a pastor, not a lawyer, so run your church’s situation past your own attorney.
The three texting rules every church should follow
- If you text from a local number, register through A2P 10DLC. A2P 10DLC is the US carrier system for registering texts that organizations send from standard local numbers. Registered numbers get better deliverability and higher throughput, and carriers filter unregistered numbers more aggressively. (Twilio)
- Get consent and keep the record. People must opt in to a specific program from a clearly identified sender, through a website form, a keyword text, or an in-person sign-up. Record the timestamp and the consent language they saw. (Bandwidth)
- Honor STOP. Tell people in your messages how to opt out and which words work: STOP, END, UNSUBSCRIBE, CANCEL, or QUIT. Send one final confirmation, then nothing else. (Bandwidth)
Your platform does most of the registration work. Your church supplies its organization details and describes its texting campaign, including how you’ll manage consent, and the platform submits it to the carriers and manages approval. Text In Church includes Priority 10DLC Registration at every tier. EZ Texting includes carrier registration in every plan, and its Launch plan adds a $5 monthly telecom fee for mandatory carrier fees, waived on its Boost, Scale, and Enterprise tiers. Trumpia provisions 10DLC numbers for an additional fee, with approval in about 10 business days, and Clearstream lists A2P 10DLC numbers as a feature without naming a fee.
Consent is the easiest rule to shortcut. A phone number in your church database isn’t an opt-in to your texting program. Invite people to join, then send a confirmation text that names your program and tells people how to reach you, how to opt out, and how often you’ll text, along with any fee disclosures. After that, respect frequency preferences and make every text earn its place on someone’s phone.
How to Pick
Start with the software your church already runs, then match the tool to the job:
- If your church runs on Planning Center and mostly sends reminders, turn on Planning Center’s $5 texting add-on first.
- If you want a dedicated texting tool with a published price and two-way Planning Center sync, pick Clearstream.
- If guest follow-up is the job you most need done, trial Text In Church and get the quote in writing.
- If you need affordable mass texting and your ChMS doesn’t matter, pick EZ Texting.
During any trial, test four things before you sign: the price at your real monthly volume, the connection to your ChMS, how easy the tool is for the staff member who will run it, and how fast support answers you.
