SaRang Church

SaRang Church in Seoul, South Korea, was founded in 1978 by Rev. Oak Han-heum and is one of the largest Presbyterian congregations in the world, with membership reported in the tens of thousands. Oak built the church on an aggressive lay-discipleship model that became famous across Korean evangelicalism. Jung-hyun Oh, named successor in 2003, has led the church since, and SaRang hosted the World Evangelical Alliance General Assembly in 2025. It belongs to the Hapdong branch of Korean Presbyterianism.

SaRang reaches 280,568 combined followers across three active platforms, and the story is almost entirely YouTube. The @sarangchurch121 channel counts 264,000 subscribers and grew 22.79 percent over the past year, with content published as recently as June 9. Instagram holds 14,968 followers and Facebook just 1,600. That growth rate is the standout: among churches in this tier, very few are adding YouTube subscribers at better than 20 percent a year on a base that large.

SaRang's 58.9 velocity score is the engine behind its rank. The church added roughly 49,000 YouTube subscribers in twelve months, more than triple its combined Instagram and Facebook audience. It is the only Korean church in this stretch of the index, and it earned the spot on momentum, not legacy reach. The 82.5 breadth score shows discipline across three platforms, but the lopsided numbers suggest the obvious next move: SaRang's Instagram is tiny relative to a congregation of its size, and any serious investment there would compound an already strong position. For now, this is what a sermon-driven YouTube strategy looks like when it works.
