2.4x

biggest global audience vs biggest US

The largest personal audience in the index belongs to Bruno Leonardo of Brazil at 90.42M. The largest American one belongs to Joel Osteen at 37.58M. America takes 44 of the 100 seats and 22 of the top 50, more than any other country, and 11 of those pastors are in TX alone. It still holds only 38 percent of the audience.

That is the honest read. American pastors have the depth of the list. The global south has the peaks. Brazil, Nigeria, Ghana, South Africa, and Tanzania hold the biggest single audiences, and 10 of the twenty fastest-growing channels in the index sit outside the United States.

Where America's Influence Sits

The 44 American pastors in the index are based in 15 states. 2 entries carry no state in the dataset and are counted separately.

Region Pastors Combined reach
South 29 101M
West 7 12.71M
Northeast 5 12.82M
Not recorded 2 2.63M
Midwest 1 2.03M

The South carries the list. 29 of the 44 American pastors lead churches in the South, and those churches account for 77 percent of the combined American audience. Every other region put together holds the rest.

Texas alone is 25 percent of it. 11 of the 44 are based in Texas, and their combined audience of 61.24M is the largest of any state. California follows with 6, Florida follows with 5, North Carolina follows with 3.

15 states, not fifty. The American entries cluster into 15 states. Large parts of the country are not represented in this index at all, which is worth remembering before reading the map as a picture of where American churches are. It is a picture of where the largest personal online audiences are.

US vs the world

America holds 44 of the 100 seats and 5 of the top 10, but only 38 percent of the audience. The largest personal audience in the world belongs to Bruno Leonardo of Brazil at 90.42M, about 2.4 times the 37.58M of Joel Osteen. American pastors have the depth of this list. The peaks are being built in Brazil, Nigeria, Ghana, South Africa, and Tanzania, and the fastest-growing pastors list shows the same pattern. A US pulpit is not the advantage it used to be. A publishing habit is.

How American Pastors Built Personal Reach

The same 44 pastors, split by platform, against the 56 in the rest of the index.

Platform US share of index audience
Facebook 57%
TikTok 53%
Instagram 33%
YouTube 20%

American reach is Facebook reach. 57 percent of every Facebook follower counted in the index belongs to one of these 44 pastors, and 53 percent on TikTok. On YouTube the figure drops to 20 percent. The biggest video channels in this index are not American.

Their biggest account is usually Instagram. Of the 44 American pastors, 16 carry their largest single audience on Instagram and 14 on YouTube. Across the other 56 pastors in the index the most common home for the largest account is Facebook, for 21 of them.

They are broad rather than tall. 11 of the 44 publish on all four platforms the index measures, out of 27 across the full 100. The median American pastor holds 1.66M in total reach against a 1.39M median for the index, while the American mean of 2.97M sits below the 3.48M index mean. More pastors in the middle, fewer at the extreme.

How to Read This List

What the score measures
Reach, velocity, and breadth on public personal accounts, weighted 50, 30, and 20 percent, on data collected August 2026. Reach is the combined following across YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook. Velocity is the 1-year change, verified for 29 of the 44 American pastors. Breadth is how many of the four platforms a pastor actually uses.
What it does not measure
Attendance, budget, giving, denominational weight, preaching, or character. Followers are not people in a room. A pastor with 1.66M online followers may have a smaller Sunday gathering than a pastor with none of it, and the reverse is just as common.
The limitation worth naming
Only personal accounts count. A pastor whose audience lives on the church's accounts is invisible here by design, and that is a real distortion in a country where many large churches publish everything under the church brand. Those audiences are measured in the most influential churches in America list instead.
How country is assigned
By where the church is based, not by nationality and not by where the audience lives. Several pastors on this page lead American churches and publish mainly in Spanish. They are counted here because the church is based in the United States.

Questions, Answered

Who is the most influential pastor in America?

Joel Osteen of Lakewood Church in Houston, TX. He ranks #1 in America and #3 worldwide in the 2026 Pastor Influence 100, with 37.58M in combined personal followers and an influence score of 79.4. Mike Signorelli (US #2) and Bobby Schuller (US #3) rank behind him.

Who is the most influential pastor in the United States in 2026?

Joel Osteen, on data collected August 2026. The ranking scores three things: reach, the combined personal audience across YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook; velocity, the 1-year change in that audience; and breadth, how many platforms the pastor actually uses. All 44 American pastors in the index are listed on this page in US rank order.

Which American pastor has the most followers?

Joel Osteen, at 37.58M across all four platforms. Most of that sits on one account: 30.29M on Facebook. Only one other American pastor in the index passes 15 million.

Which US pastor is growing the fastest?

Joby Martin of The Church of Eleven22, whose personal YouTube channel grew +2,030% in one year to 47.7K subscribers. David Walker (+395%) and Michelle Corral (+347%) follow. Growth that steep comes off a small starting base. Of the 20 fastest-growing pastors worldwide, 10 are American.

Where does Steven Furtick rank?

Steven Furtick of Elevation Church ranks US #5 and #9 worldwide, with 15.84M in combined personal followers and an influence score of 75.5. His is the second-largest American audience in the index, behind Joel Osteen.

How many American pastors are in the global top 10?

5 of the 10, 11 of the top 25, and 22 of the top 50. Across the whole index, 44 of 100 pastors are based in the United States, and they hold 38 percent of the combined audience. The other 56 come from 21 countries.

Which state has the most influential pastors?

Texas, with 11 of the 44 American pastors in the index, 25 percent of the US field. California has 6, Florida has 5, North Carolina has 3. The 44 come from 15 states in all, and 2 entries carry no state in the dataset. Texas also holds the largest combined audience of any state at 61.24M.

Which part of the country are they in?

The South holds 29 of the 44 American pastors and 77 percent of the combined American audience. The West has 7. The Northeast has 5. The Midwest has 1. Regions follow the US Census definitions, applied to the state each church is based in.

Which platforms do American pastors lead on?

Facebook and TikTok. 57 percent of every Facebook follower counted in the index belongs to an American pastor, and 53 percent on TikTok. They hold 33 percent on Instagram and only 20 percent on YouTube, where the largest channels in the world are based outside the United States.

How does the typical American pastor compare with the rest of the index?

The median American pastor in the index carries 1.66M in total personal reach, above the 1.39M median across all 100. The mean runs the other way: 2.97M for American pastors against 3.48M for the index. America has more pastors in the middle. The largest single audiences are elsewhere.

Why does each pastor have two rank numbers?

The primary number is the US rank, position among the 44 American pastors in the index. The muted number beside each name is the global rank in the full Pastor Influence 100. Joel Osteen is US #1 and #3 worldwide. Both come from the same score, so nothing is recalculated between the two lists.

Why is a well-known American pastor missing?

Two common reasons. The index only ranks people currently serving as the lead, senior, co-lead, or church-wide teaching pastor of a local church at the August 2026 snapshot, so leaders of a network, conference platform, or media ministry are not eligible. The second reason is account ownership: only personal accounts count, so an audience that sits on a ministry or church account is measured in the Church Influence 100 instead.

How is influence measured?

Reach is 50 percent of the score, velocity 30 percent, and breadth 20 percent. Reach is graded on a curve because audiences on this list span five orders of magnitude. Velocity was verified for 29 of the 44 American pastors; the rest are scored on reach and breadth with a neutral weighting. Every figure comes from public platform data collected August 2026.

Is this a ranking of the best preachers in America?

No. It measures audience and momentum on public platforms, nothing else. It is not a judgment of preaching, character, doctrine, or faithfulness, and a pastor's placement here says nothing about the health of the church they lead.

Influence like this gets built on purpose.

Every pastor on this list publishes on a schedule, in formats people actually watch. That is a system, not a gift. We run that system for churches every week: sermon clips, graphics, carousels, captions, posted for you.
